The music event “Brassy Sunday” at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam on Sunday, April 16, 2023 was a success.
The new formula in which Codarts students provide workshops for brass players and percussionists turned out to be a bull's-eye. Both the members of Brassband Rijnmond and other interested musicians from the region took an active part in these public workshops. It was certainly instructive and good to see that the bond between students and teachers of the conservatory and Brassband Rijnmond could be strengthened as a result. This was followed by a performance by the Codarts Brass Ensemble, a brass ensemble consisting of Codarts students led by their teacher Jeroen Schippers. A wonderful performance by this very talented group of young musicians. There was also a spectacular performance by the entire trombone class led by teacher Alexander Verbeek. After the very energetic and passionate percussion ensemble Codarts Percussion with African djembes and an impressive marimba solo, it was the turn of Brassband Rijnmond. Brass band Rijnmond led by old acquaintance and guest conductor Erik van de Kolk concluded this beautiful “Brassy Sunday” with a varied program. Highlights during this performance were the soloists Jeroen Schippers (trumpet teacher at Codarts) on cornet in Rusalka's song to the moon” and our own Ester van Loo on alto horn in the romantic solo “Over the rainbow”.
Brass band Rijnmond looks back with great pleasure on a fun and educational afternoon in which there was excellent cooperation with the students and teachers of Codarts Rotterdam. A big compliment and thank you to teacher Jeroen Schippers for his enormous commitment and enthusiasm to make this project a success.
Brassband Rijnmond is looking forward to a nice and long-term collaboration with Codarts.
