Brassband Rijnmond is pleased with the appointment of Luc Vertommen as new conductor.
Luc Vertommen is geen onbekende in de brassbandwereld en heeft al vele successen met diverse brassbands gehad. Brassband Rijnmond kijkt uit naar de samenwerking met hem. Vanaf eind mei heeft Luc de muzikale leiding over de band.

Luke Vertommen:
Luc Vertommen was born in Leest (Mechelen) where he became acquainted with wind music through the local brass band. He studied cornet, solfege and piano at the music academies of Mechelen and Willebroek. His higher music studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven were crowned with a triple Laureate Diploma for Trumpet, Music History and Wind and Fanfare Conducting. He then obtained a first prize in chamber music at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels and a master's degree in conducting at the Lemmens Institute. He received his PhD from the University of Salford (Manchester) in 2011 in the class of David King and Peter Graham.
After his education he worked as a freelance trumpet player and was immersed full-time in the world of wind music, on the one hand as a teacher of brass and ensemble/instrumental ensemble and as a teacher of wind band conducting. He is director of the Academy in Deurne (Antwerp) and conductor of the Hauts-de-France Brass Band (FR). He regularly conducts and judges throughout Europe and in 2014 received the International Buma Brass Award 2014 for his international work within the wind music world. He is also working on a CD and book series on Flemish wind music, the Anthology of Flemish Band Music. In 2001 he was awarded the Fugue Trophy for his commitment to Belgian music.
He is responsible publisher hafabra for Traxon Music/Band Press and regularly makes arrangements for wind band that can be heard on numerous CDs.
